The international consulting firm Savills publishes the
Hybrid Working Index 2021 ranking which analyses the cities that will be able to evolve to hybrid working models, i.e., those jobs that combine in-person and remote working, the fastest.
The report establishes two classifications which analyse the transition to flexible working models from the perspective of employees and employers. From the perspective of employees, factors such as the size of homes, the average broadband speed, mobility or the make-up of the population are analysed. The factors which are analysed from the perspective of companies include the duration of the confinement, the price and duration of rental agreements, work space efficiency or pre-Covid flexibility.
From the perspective of employees, Madrid is the 2
nd highest ranking city that could implement hybrid working models the fastest in the world in the post-Covid era (2
nd/21) and the 1
st in Europe, surpassing London (3
rd/21), Paris (4
th/21), New York (7
th/21), Hong Kong (9
th/21) or Berlin (11
th/75), in a ranking led by Los Angeles.
As regards the factors weighing in on the perspective of companies, Madrid is the 6
th highest ranking city in the world (6
th/21) and the 4
th in Europe, surpassing Amsterdam (7
th/21), Los Angeles (8
th/21), Sidney (10
th/21), Barcelona (11

The high score of Madrid in the ranking points to its high-speed broadband, which is an essential characteristic for balancing working at home and in the office, as well as for digital nomads looking to work with greater flexibility all across Europe, making the Spanish capital particularly appealing when combined with other factors such as its quality of life.
